Employment
I'm a retired technology executive, with broad technical, administrative and budgetary experience. Most of my career had a "Silicon Valley" focus, from computer mainframe engineering to global network design, to trans-national deployment. My most recent position was that of Chief Security Officer (CSO) for a multi-national Fortune 500 company.
Education
I've earned a number of advanced degrees, with published research, most recently a Doctor of Science (ScD) from Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science. I've studied various physical and natural sciences and technologies, environmental biology, human and natural ecology, formal logic, ethics, technical management and other topics.
Other Experience
I’m a serious lifelong student of biology, with specific, award-winning expertise in local ecology and forestry. I’ve been a member of the MO Botanical Garden since 1977. I’ve worked hard for many years to improve my fields and forest, to eliminate invasive species, and to increase health and diversity of native ones.
My construction experience and knowledge of engineering principles help me assess civil engineering-related questions that come before Council for development, zoning, or infrastructure. I recently earned a Planning & Zoning Chancellor's Certificate at University of MO, St. Louis.
Hobbies
I have an exemplary home library, and I collect, maintain and modify knives, firearms, and vehicles. I'm an avid woodworker and still use furniture I made a half-century ago. My well-equipped wood shop contains a lifetime supply of various species of wood that I harvested and dried myself.
I've been an avid SCUBA diver since age 15, and an active instrument-rated, aerobatic and antique aircraft pilot since high school. I love cycling, snow and water skiing, climbing and hiking, and everything else in the outdoors. In my younger years I took lots of racetrack time and instruction in 2 and 4-wheeled vehicles.
I've taken regular rifle, shotgun and handgun practice my entire life. I've used family field archery ranges from age 6 until recently, when I needed a total draw-arm shoulder joint replacement.
